The Evidence and Impact team at EngenderHealth is a global team responsible for generating, synthesizing and disseminating evidence on the impact and effectiveness of EngenderHealth programs, through rigorous and systematic monitoring, evaluation, research, knowledge management, and learning. Evidence is used for program improvement, organization learning, and to address key knowledge gaps in the field.

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Technical Advisor for Research and Learning, the Program Associate for Research and Learning will have responsibility for making sure that evidence is used to support organizational learning and quality improvement of EngenderHealth programming. In this role, the Program Associate will support the generation, synthesis and dissemination of high-quality evidence on EngenderHealth’s programmatic strategies, tools and approaches. The Program Associate will provide support for developing, implementing and disseminating results of research studies and evaluations; support capacity development for research, evaluation, and learning; develop and implement organizational standards and practices for research and evaluation; and support the development and implementation of organizational research and learning strategies. Finally, the Program Associate will provide technical assistance for M&E to projects. A creative, flexible, and curious thinker will thrive in this position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

§ Develop, implement and monitor organizational standards and procedures for conducting research and evaluation, under the supervision of Technical Advisor for Research and Learning.

§ Coordinate the ethical and technical review of research studies and evaluations and monitor study implementation and results dissemination.

§ Maintain an organizational database of research and evaluation documents.

§ In collaboration with relevant EngenderHealth staff, participate in generating evidence on the outcomes and impact of EngenderHealth’s programmatic strategies, tools and approaches at the organizational- and project-level.

§ Build capacity of relevant EngenderHealth staff to develop and implement high quality research studies and evaluations and disseminate learning to diverse stakeholders at EngenderHealth and beyond.

§ Manage, analyze, synthesize and simplify complex data and information into products that respond to the evidence and learning needs of diverse stakeholders from EngenderHealth and beyond.

§ Develop, revise and edit study reports and papers for peer-reviewed publication as well as technical and policy briefs that document the outcomes and impact of EngenderHealth’s programmatic strategies, tools and approaches, under the Supervision of Technical Advisor for Research and Learning.

§ Conduct literature reviews to support the development and improvement of EngenderHealth’s programmatic strategies, tools and approaches, under the Supervision of Technical Advisor for Research and Learning.

§ In collaboration with relevant EngenderHealth staff, develop and implement strategies for organizational learning in regard to EngenderHealth’s programmatic strategies, tools and approaches, and monitor their implementation.

§ Coordinate the development and implementation of an organizational research strategy, including setting research priorities, and monitoring its implementation, in collaboration with the organization’s Research and Learning Working Group.

§ Coordinate and periodically host monthly brownbags to promote and facilitate organizational learning events.

§ Contribute to the development of a sexual and reproductive rights monitoring and research framework, under the supervision of the Director of Evidence and Impact.

§ Improve the coordination and quality of external evidence dissemination, particularly at conferences.

§ Provide technical assistance in M&E and research as needed to EngenderHealth programs.

§ Contribute to improved and more robust KM activities internally and externally.

§ Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & CERTIFICATIONS:

§ Graduate degree in public health or related field, preferably with formal training in public health research.

§ Training or experience in non-health sector Sustainable Development Goals disciplines a strong plus.

§ Two to five years’ experience with reproductive health/family planning and international development issues with a focus on research, evaluation and/or knowledge management (organizational learning).

§ Experience in conducting research or evaluation required; specific experience in the field of sexual and reproductive health and rights highly desirable.

§ Experience living or working outside the United States, specifically in Asia or Africa, highly desirable.

§ Experience in developing and implementing standard operating procedures and/or implementation guidelines (field manuals) for research studies and evaluations.

§ Experience in training or building capacity in research, evaluation or knowledge management highly desirable.

§ Experience in ethical conduct of research processes including support of protocol development and ethical review board application submission a plus.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

§ Strong technical writing skills including the ability to synthesize complex information into succinct, readable reports.

§ Strong analytical skills including the ability to conduct univariate and simple multivariate statistical analysis; qualitative data analysis skills a plus.

§ Strong research and/or evaluation skills including the ability to develop and implement sound research studies or evaluations.

§ Refined capabilities in data management, data quality analytics, and data visualization.

§ Excellent computer skills, with particular knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint and Word, statistical applications (e.g., SPSS, Stata, EpiInfo), data visualization (e.g., Excel, Tableau, JMP, Microsoft BI), and survey development applications (e.g., SurveyMonkey, ODK, Google forms, CSPro); experience working with qualitative software packages desirable.

§ Demonstrated competency in conducting white and grey literature searches and a findings summary.

§ Detailed understanding of outcomes mapping (e.g., theory of change, directed acyclic graphs).

§ Exceptional interpersonal and teamwork skills.

§ Excellent organizational skills.

§ Fluency in English required; proficiency in French strongly preferred.

§ Willingness to travel up to 25% internationally.

§ Must be comfortable and respectful of EngenderHealth’s programming that promotes women’s rights, gender equality, sexual diversity and LGBTQ rights.
