JOB SUMMARY:
The Senior Clinical Advisor – Reproductive, Maternal, Neonatal and Adolescent Health (RMNAH) will be responsible for providing thought leadership in advancing right-based, state-of-the-art policies, strategies and programming design. The Advisor will represent EngenderHealth in technical forums and working groups, positioning EngenderHealth as thought leader in RMNAH field. The Advisor will lead the design and implementation of innovative, high impact technical strategies to advance quality results at all levels (policy, service delivery and community). This position holder will contribute conceptually to designing and leading rights-based, high impact RMNAH interventions. Internally, the Advisor should work closely with colleagues across Divisions (Strategy and Impact, Program Management and External Relations (New Business Development), and externally should work in partnership with other advisors at sister organizations, government institutions and donors to advance the mission of EngenderHealth and accelerate our impact.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide technical leadership and strategic direction to the development of rights-based, state-of- the art technical policies, strategies and programming in Reproductive Health (RH) with a focus on Family Planning (FP), Maternal Health, and Adolescent Health including identification and adaptation of emerging and new clinical/medical technologies, approaches and frameworks as well as ensuring operational excellence.
- Drive the establishment and strengthening of effective and efficient systems and processes for ensuring the technical quality of all RMNAH projects/programs and ensure adherence to a set of minimum standards and practices in support of high quality, high impact results consistently.
- Significantly contribute to new business development including leading technical designs of proposals that are innovative, comprehensive and result-oriented, as well as in writing concept papers to guide resource mobilization. S/he will also proactively participate in donor outreach strategies for the organization in coordination with External Relations team.
- Support the development of a multi-year integrated RMNAH plan and investment framework that is fully aligned with the Strategic Plan2020 of EngenderHealth.
- Provide technical advice to the Director, Strategy and Innovation, in support of achieving technical priorities and goals set by the division as well as in introducing new thinking and innovative ways of doing business to address the needs of our target audience in the changing funding environment.
- Participate in the development and implementation of monitoring and evaluation tools to monitor effectiveness and impact of key RMNAH interventions. Prepare regular analytical reports to be shared with the VP Strategy and Impact; and facilitate documenting best practices for deepening the knowledge base on RMNAH.
- Build strong, supportive relations and coordinate efforts across divisions (Strategy and Impact and Program Management) to support harmonized and integrated technical assistance and capacity building requests from field offices. S/he will facilitate the establishment of effective south-to-south capacity building models to develop need-based technical assistance support to field teams while strengthening the local capacity for longer-term and more sustainable programming.
- Contribute to a global body of knowledge by working closely with the Director, Knowledge Management, Monitoring, Evaluation and Research to generate the evidence base to support critical policy, strategy and programmatic decisions. S/he will also contribute to operations research to assess the effectiveness and efficiency of existing programs and design new programs that promotes the mission and vision of EngenderHealth. Write technical briefs and contribute articles for peer-reviewed journals.
- Engage in higher level technical discussions with academia, donors, and partners, and represent EngenderHealth as thought leader in major partnership forums, meetings and conferences.
- Possibly manage and supervise staff members as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & CERTIFICATIONS:
- A medical doctor or a specialist in obstetrics/gynecology with a Master’s degree in Public Health or related discipline; or a registered midwife with Master’s degree in in Public Health, Master’s degree in International Health; or PhD in Public Health related discipline.
- Specialization reproductive health, FP and maternal health interventions is desirable
- Significant experience, ten or more years, as senior advisor, technical expert or thought-leader in RH, FP and MH field, working for an organization of a comparable size and scope with track record of significant accomplishments in the field.

- Passion for advancing women’s health and women’s empowerment and a strong commitment to the mission and future of EngenderHealth.
- Deep experience of leading technical proposal designs, quality assurance frameworks and standards and creating effective technical assistance models in RMNAH.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with a strong results-oriented focus.
- Regional level and multi-country experiences are essential/ a must.
- Superior communication skills: interpersonal and written skills and excellent team work ethics
- Demonstrated experience in cultivating strategic partnerships at all levels.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of monitoring and evaluation of RMNAH programs.
- Willingness and ability to travel internationally up to 40% of level of effort.
- Excellent presentation and facilitation skills.
- Fluency in English required and at least one foreign language spoken in countries we work in.
- Must be comfortable and respectful of EngenderHealth’s programming that promotes women’s rights, gender equality, sexual diversity and LGBTQ rights.
